Neil de Gelder, Q.C.

Mr. de Gelder, Chairman of BC Discovery Fund, is Executive Vice-President of Stern Partners Inc. where he provides executive support for the management of existing companies in which Stern Partners is a lead investor, as well as leadership in the sourcing, structuring and completion of new investments. Widely regarded as one of Canada's leading corporate lawyers, Mr. de Gelder was previously a partner in Vancouver with the law firm Borden Ladner Gervais LLP where he practiced corporate and commercial law, primarily in the capital markets and mergers and acquisitions areas. Mr. de Gelder was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1979. He is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School at York University with a Bachelor of Laws (1978) and received his Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree from the University of Calgary (1975). From 1987 to 1990, Mr. de Gelder was the Executive Director of the British Columbia Securities Commission. He was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1999. Mr. de Gelder has been active on a variety of community boards, including the Vancouver Board of Trade and the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Neal Clarance

Neal Clarance has over 35 years of experience as a practicing CA/CPA. He is a retired Partner from E&Y where he most recently served as the Canadian Leader of the firm’s services to the Entertainment Industry. He also had extensive experience with servicing a broad range of clients in a wide variety of industries including, Banking, Brokerage, Investment, Venture Capital, Manufacturing and Technology. Mr. Clarance is a Director of the Canadian Film Centre, a past Director of the International Financial Centre and a member of the Corporate Institute of Directors.

Dr. Alan Winter

Dr. Winter is currently President and CEO of Genome B.C., a leading research and development organization in the area of genomics and life sciences, and part of the Genome Canada initiative. Dr. Winter graduated from Queen's University at Kingston in 1974 with a doctorate in electrical engineering. He is on the boards of several leading public and private organizations in the technology sector, and is Chair of the Board of the federal Communications Research Centre in Ottawa. Dr. Winter also advises the Government of Canada as a member of the national Council of Science and Technology Advisors (CSTA). He is a Fellow of the Canadian Astronautics and Space Institute and received its inaugural Alouette award. Dr. Winter was also President and CEO of MPR Teltech Inc. from 1992 to 1996, which was owned by B.C. Tel, and from which leading telecommunications organizations such as PMC-Sierra Inc. and Sierra Wireless Inc. were created.

Harry Jaako

Harry is a co-founder of Discovery Capital, and a Director and the President of BC Discovery Fund. He has worked with nearly 250 technology companies, and has over 25 years experience in advising early-stage technology companies, managing technology sector investment funds, and sourcing, analyzing and closing venture capital investment opportunities. Harry was appointed as a Public Governor of the Vancouver Stock Exchange in 1998, served as an independent Director of the Canadian Venture Exchange (CDNX), and in 2001 was appointed a Director of the Toronto Stock Exchange (TMX Group Inc.), North America's first publicly traded stock exchange group. Harry is an active member of BC's technology and investment communities, and frequently appears as a key advocate for the BC technology sector through numerous local and international media outlets. Prior to co-founding Discovery Capital, he was a consulting manager with DMR Group, and worked with IBM Canada Ltd. Harry holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Lakehead University. Harry is a director of portfolio companies Navarik Corp., and Vigil Health Solutions Inc.

John McEwen

John is a co-founder of Discovery Capital, and a Director and the CEO of BC Discovery Fund (VCC) Inc. He has worked with nearly 250 technology companies, and has over 25 years experience in advising early-stage technology companies, managing technology sector investment funds, and sourcing, analyzing and closing venture capital investment opportunities. John has spearheaded corporate finance initiatives for companies such as Sierra Wireless Inc. and Tantalus Systems Corp., accelerating their development by attracting key corporate and additional venture capital backing. He is well known in the B.C. technology community as past Operations Chair of the Vancouver Enterprise Forum. Prior to co-founding Discovery Capital, he worked with IBM Canada Ltd. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia. John is a director of portfolio company Tantalus Systems Corp.
